24 King Alianation

This was an interesting build. King Mountain disc hubs into Alianation 24" rims. The goal was a really light weight set of wheels for a really light kids bike. I built these wheels with black 15 gauge spokes for added weight savings. Black wheels with red accents is all the rage these days. One would almost think other colors were not available. We refuse to believe that!

We are open to using hubs other than the ones we carry. Rims too. Send them to us and we will do the rest. It's best to ask about certain options as we reserve the right not to build with certain equipment. Example we will build with both King and Alianation though we do not have accounts with either one of them at the moment. This set was built for a shop in Asheville, NC.

Yes wooden rims! The same kind of wood we make trees out of. These are both an interesting build and an interesting ride. Not to mention a great conversation starter. Think of the possibilities!

Yes this really does work. Quite well at that. It rides just like any other radially laced wheel. We admit that this pattern baffles the minds of a lot of mechanics and that's ok with us. We have several sets of these out and about in the world.

Rear Brown for Sylvan

This set of wheels like most sets we build was built for a specific bike. The bike is a one off custom frame by Sylvan Cycles. It can be seen at the top of their ‘Products’ page on their website. The rims are Velocity Deep-V and the Hubs are King. Both rims and hubs are brown to go with the mahogany frame and fork. The spokes are Wheelsmith Double butted 14/15 gauge stainless with forged alloy nipples in black. The build itself was done 3 cross on both sides with a half twist on the non-drive side only. The twist compensates for the naturally occurring low non-drive side spoke tension. As well as makes an ‘effective flange’ that is much larger without the weight of a 7” (18cm) flange. The twist also equalizes the tension between the right and left sides of a rear wheel making it much stronger and more responsive. I'll put up pictures of the bike once the frame arrives.

Hope Mavic Front

This is the front half of our best selling set of wheels. It's a road set but we have a similar set for cyclo-cross and mountain. Yes I know the spokes are twisted... I explain why in the next photo.   MSRP for a set of these is $1026. Dealer Inquireries welcome! 

Hope Mavic Rear

This is our hottest selling set of wheels. Available in 28 spokes or more with Hope Mono Pro 3 road hubs (in colors). The rims are Mavic Open Pro clinchers. The spokes are Wheelsmith Double butted 14/15 gauge stainless with forged alloy nipples. The build itself is done 3 cross on both sides with a half twist on the non-drive side only. Hope Mavic Front Detail

Close up of the front wheel. We used to build these with a different hubset but now we are using exclusively Hope hubs. We find them to be among the smoothest hubs out there, VERY reliable, easier to work on than King and about 1/3 less the cost of King. We see this as being better for everyone. 

Protest RED Wheels

This set of wheels was intended to protest the the idea of the all black set of wheels with little red accents.The rims are Velocty B43's. The hubs are Miche fixed only track hubs. Both hubs and rims were powder coated RED Then we used black wheelsmith spokes and red nipples. We like bold colors sometimes. One shouldn't be shy about it.

Here is a close up of the hub and lacing pattern. It's a simple 3 cross patern with a half twist for extra stiffness at the 3rd crossing.

Blue Mountain Full Twist

Blue Hope hubs and matching Blue Velocity rims 3 cross with a full twist for use with a disc brake. They are also available without the twist and in an asortment of colors.  MSRP is $1250. Dealer inquireries welcome. 

Hope Mono Pro 3 Set

Hope hubs are some of the sexiest most functional hubs on the market. They are smooth and fast as well as very durable. They’re not made in the States but they’re not made in Asia either. They are in fact made in England. They make an assortment of different things from hubs to brakes to headsets etc. Great stuff! We are big fans. We would love it if they would make their hubs available in green as well....

The Inards

One of the things we love about Hope hubs is that they are easy to work on. The rear hub requires no tools to get it appart. It's a 4 pawl 4 bearing design. Simple in a very eligant way. 

Wheel Display

These wheel displays were originally developed for our own showroom. A shop locally wanted a few sets so we decided to make them for anyone who wanted them. We have sold multitudes of these to shops all over the country.

They are a simple inexpensive and easy solution to the question ‘how to display our wheels?’ They are made of stainless steel and include a loop for a tether to keep honest people honest. One set includes one front and one rear. The rear is made to accommodate both mountain and road.

Spokes and Nipples

We cut and thread spokes for our wheel builds but we can also do this for you as well. If you build your own or if your shop needs spokes we would be happy to cut them for you. No need to order a box of 100. We will cut the number you need and throw in an extra at no extra cost. We can also cut to .5 of a millimeter. For example if your calculations come out to 261.5 then we can cut exactly that. And if you only need 16 then you will get 17 for the price of 16. Please keep in mind all spokes are the highest quality double butted 14/15 gauge Wheelsmith stainless steel spokes in either black or silver. Nipples come in a verity of colors.
